Friday painting

Today I have been painting just for fun! This has inspired the other work I do for children's wear. I am going to use the colours and marks that I like here on a tropical design next!

Reveal Magazine Feature

This week the collaboration is featured in 'Reveal' magazine!

OASIS ART SCHOOL COLLABORATION

I recently went down to London to see the final collection, to help style and to be interviewed on camera. I was really nervous but it was a really fun day. The collection will be in stores at the end of June.

Recent Commission

I recently created a hand painted and printing piece as a commission to be hung in front on a large window in a house in Norfolk. After going to see the location I sketched using markers and sent it to Andy (the guy who was commissioning me) who sent it back to me with his favourite parts labeled.

This was a massive learning curve for me as it was the first time I have printed without the wonderful facilities of Norwich University of the Arts. I set myself up in the garage, it was all a bit make shift and my table was not quite long enough for the piece so I had to work on one area at a time. This may be why the design is make up of smaller elements than the lengths I have created before. In the end really enjoyed it. Each time I left it to dry I took photos so you can see it coming together!

When I went to drop the work off the two people who were buying it seemed really pleased and later sent me this photo of the work hanging up!

People I have met: LUCY AUGE

Lucy is a freelance designer and illustrator living in Bath. Lucy stayed in the internship house with me whilst on a two week placement with Hallmark. I love the hand drawn marker detail that Lucy uses. She was great to live with as she was always getting creative. Images copyright of Lucy but you can see lots more here www.lucyauge.co.uk or type her name into pinterest.

People I have met: GEMMA LUXTON

Gemma Luxton graduated from Nottingham Trent last year and then went on to win the New Designers Hallmark award and ended up living in the Internship house with me for two months. She now lives in Yorkshire working as a designer for Hallmark. Here is some of her lovely work all copyrighted by Gemma. You can see more here www.gemmagraceluxton.com

Where have I been? TIGERPRINT

You may have noticed I have not posted on here for a very long time. For the last 7 months I have been working at Tigerprint (www.tigerprint.uk.com) who create gifting, home wear, cards and wraps for M&S. I was unable to post on my blog due to living with very limited internet for the past 7 months (nightmare).

I spent from September - Christmas last year living in Shipley which is just outside Bradford. This is where the head office is! I stayed in internship accommodation which was brilliant because it was free for people on placement with either Hallmark or Tigerprint! Usually a placement with Tigerprint is two weeks long which meant I lived with 22 people in the whole time I was there! I met some wonderful people and some characters who shared some wonderful work with me (which I will show you over the next few weeks).

Then after Christmas I moved down to the London studio which is much smaller in London. Here I created my own brand and worked on lots more exciting briefs for design management.

I have absolutely loved my placement! My work has progressed a lot as I have worked on briefs that were very new to me. Briefs included Christmas development, female and male cards, calendars and diaries. I have enjoyed collaborating with other designers and freelancers (the people at Tigerprint are extremely friendly). I have worked to specific briefs for design management and a number of my cards and wraps have been chosen for M&S ranges. I created characters for the first time at Tigerprint which received enthusiastic feedback! I have also learnt to incorporate text within my work using hand lettering as well as appropriate fonts.

Unfortunately I am unable to share any work that I have created for Tigerprint until it hits the shops.

Beautiful Saltaire, next to Shipley where I lived
