My Favourite Photos

I don't know anything about photography, but sometimes my photos accidentally turn out looking clever. I have just been looking through my photos on my laptop and here a few of my favourites which have or probably will inspire my textiles.

Oxjam

On the 2nd of July I went along to Oxjam festival in Deptford with my friend Emily, hoping to sell some bags, cards and bits that I made using old samples. The selling part didn't really go to well, but it was a lovely day with music and cakes. Here are some pictures, the bottom 3 were taken by Ash Lin, a girl with a big camera!

First year at NUCA

The year started off and the work I was producing was not very good in my opinion, probably because I didn't really know was expected. Here are a few bits from the drawing project which I am happy with. The two photos below are from a short project in which we had to choose something from the castle and do your project on it. I choose a big bowl with and Indian scene on it. Below are two of my favourite drawings from this project. The orangey one I edited on the computer in some long winded way because I was scared of photoshop at this stage in my life. The 2nd one I am so pleased with and is probably my favourite drawing I have ever done.

This picture shows some sampling based on berries. I sewed round and round in little circles creating little half circles, 'titties' according to my tutor Grainne.

The 3 boards above show the best bits of my 'stripes and checks' project which was quite a long project, maybe a few months. I entered these boards into the Angela Huston competition and won £125! As you can see I experimented with weaving in this project (as well as printing and paper folding). Although I think that the print and weave combo is really interesting, I do not think that weaving is for me. I don't think its worth the long long long amount of time spent.

Here are some of my favourite photos of my bird project which was the last project of the year. We were able to choose for ourselves what we wanted to do our projects on. Although I have done a 'plumage' project before which i focused on chickens, I decided to look at birds again but this time more exotic coloured birds. This project was by far my favourite, because it was longer and perhaps because I enjoyed the theme. For this project i got my first first! Again I have used a combination of techniques. In a few samples i used knitting, print and stitch all at the same time.
